Connect laptop hard drive to desktop
My laptop HDD looks like this:

What I want to do is connect it to another PC via USB cable. I know they have laptop to IDE adapters and IDE to USB adapters.
Here is one set:

Is that what I need?

EDIT: It's not in stock there but it's at Amazon for cheap:

If I order in the next hour I can have it tomorrow.

Wow, so does that accomplish the same thing in just one unit? I can take out my laptop HDD, put it into that, and then plug it into my desktop via USB?
It doesn't look like it comes with a USB cable though.
EDIT: nm I see it does have the cable included.
Are you sure this will fit the connector my HDD has?

I think the HD connections are universal and there are other models of these enclosures some cheaper some higher in price. Kingwin makes some good ones

Kingwin makes several, and Nexstar makes several as well, just have to shop around. Just thought something like these would be cheaper for you and do what you want.

The Vantec one I found at Directron for $22.99. I'm having trouble finding anything cheaper. I really need it ASAP, though. Next day shipping is $45.49. Some places I found cheaper ones but shipping is more, and some places I found cheaper shipping but the item costs more. I tried about 6 ones and this looks like the cheapest total of price + shipping.
As long as this is the right product. That's my main concern. The idea is that by hooking this up to an XP machine that I can then run Ontrack Recovery from the XP machine and retrieve the files off the laptop HD.
