RAID 0 under Windows XP Home?

Is it possible to create a RAID 0 in windows XP home edition? A Software RAID that is, if not, is it possible to create a hardware raid? And what is the difference between striping and spanning the drives?

I checked it is a ECS model K7VTA3 but it doesnt appear to have one -> ECS K7VTA3 Version 8.0c Motherboard

EDIT:
Is there a big difference between cards, is this one any good -> Syba Ultra ATA/133 (UATA133) RAID PCI Controller Card - Model #SD-ATA133R

EDIT2:
Do i have to reinstall windows to setup a RAID? Or can i just set up a RAID with windows arleady installed and a bunch of data on the hd's

You are right your motherboard doesn't have one and you will have to reinstall Windows to get it onto RAID and you will need a pair of matched (preferably identical) hard drives :yesnod:

Can't help you with choice of raid controller card - maybe someone else can ^*^

If you do decide to go RAID everything on your harddrive will be erased. Depending on what type of harddrive you have, IDE or SATA you have to pcik the right RAID card.

I have a thread here somewhere about me setting up software raid0 with XP pro... should work with home too (If not you might need to DL the diskpart.exe utility for DOS)

I do not remember everything that went into it... and it will only allow one OS to be installed

In my case I used 200GB primary 120GB slave made a partition on the 200 for the OS and striped the rest (2-60GBs on each.. for a total of 2 120GB partitions..)or was it 3 80's hmmm

Anyway.. .then use an app like tweak XP pro to move all your system folders to the striped partitions to get better performace out of the OS

Hardware raid is MUCH easier

opened disk management and formatted quick to NTFS...
(Disable page file)
Setup reg tweaks and such to move default locations to new parttions..
Started installing appz and such to the new striped volume

I cant say that I noticed a huge performance increae...

Definitely some thiough

Man thing I noticed??? Its quieter
I dont know why? You would think that accssing 2 HDDs instead of one would make it louder... but for some reason its not

Weird

Thats how I setup raid0 on my PC (I did not keep it though...)
