could they be using germanium instead of silicon or the new semiconductor polymers?

I don't think we'll be seeing any 6GHz CPUs soon.
Intel has anounced that they will drop their next core (Tejas) and instead
evolve the new Pentium M core (Yes that's the Intel Mobile). It has higher
IPC than the P4 and isn't based on Netburst.
They will also use dual-core's.

Will we even be able to have programs that can utilize that much speed on a 10-20GHz Processor? let alone have the Motherboard handle how fast its FSB needs to probably be! anyways, it will probably be a couple of years off before speeds exceed 10Ghz anyways.

Interesting, I was thinking about the same thing. I remember quite a few months back there was a lot of hype about germanium being a substitute for silicon as CPU speeds get higher because of its superior crystal structure. It does sound like this would be what Intel is thinking. I don't know of many other materials that would be suitable for use in processors, but who knows what those geniuses can think up when they are locked in a room getting kicked in the a** until answers start coming out :p
