OS = XP Pro

When I start a DOS console by running "command", I get the following message: "Cannot load VDM IPX/SPX Support"

You need to use the command "cmd" to open a command prompt in 2k-xp. Go to start-> run and type "cmd" (sans quotes) and press enter.

Odd though, command should work, since there should be a "command.com" file in the system32 directory.

yes, but keep in mind it is most likely a left over from a 9x install - 2k/xp has no native dos environment, so command.com probably doesn't work.

cmd.exe is the NT command line shell where command.com is the old command interpreter for DOS. command.com has been kept around for compatibility with old DOS programs. You should use cmd.exe for anything from now on.

The primary purpose of the DATA statement is to give names to constants; instead of referring to pi as 3.141592653589793 at every appearance, the variable PI can be given that value with a DATA statement and used instead of the longer form of the constant. This also simplifies modifying the program, should the value of pi change.

No, every copy of XP I've installed, does install a command.com with a version number of 5.1.2600. Like Weaver said, it's for compatibility, but it's not a leftover version. I'd like to know why his won't run, unless he has two versions of command.com on his machine, one new, one old.
