1 GHz of an Overclock?
<img src="http://img331.echo.cx/img331/7695/vapoblack04l10522004pu.jpg" align="right" >A 5-GHz Pentium? No way!
By Matthew P. Graven
David Blozen is a fiberoptics technician who builds PCs in his spare time. When he recently read an article about building the best dream PC avalible-a system costing about $8,000-Blozen took it as a challenge. He decided to build a system that was better-and cheaper.
At the core of his system is a 3.8-GHz Intel Pentium 4 processor, an ABIT AA8XE Motherboard, and 1GB of DDR RAM. A standered heatsink and cooling system wasn't enough for Blozen, who wanted to squeeze out as much speed possible. He tried water cooling, but the chip still ran fairly hot and unstable.
Blozen stepped up to the challenge, deciding to try the Asetek VapoChill LightSpeed cooling system, which operates much like a typical refrigerator. A cooled refrigerent gas draws the heat away from a plate attached to the CPU. The now hot gas is compressed, then passes into a raidiator where it cools and condenses as the heat tranfers to the outside air.
When the gas gets expanded again at the cooling plate, the further heat loss keeps the CPU at sub-zero temperatures. As a bonus the VapoChill is quieter than a typical air cooling system. Sure, the chiller cost Blozen close to $900 at FrozenCPU.com but that was still a fraction of eight grand for the PC he'd read about.
The result: Blozen can drive his processor to a schoking 5-GHz! That's more than 1-GHz of overclocking, yet the system runs cool and stable. Even under load the CPU staysat about -40 degrees Fahrenheit.
Although filled with a host of other components including a 16X DVD writer and an nVidia 6800 GT graphics card with 256MB of memory, Blozen's dream system cost only half the price of the PC that led him on his quest for speed. Now that's a sweet reader ride.

This is nothing special
and 5ghz isn,t special either its just @ vapo. if it was homebuild phasechange -100C and a oc of +3ghz then it would have been special.
At Xtremesystems or enough of overclockers who have done +7ghz. on intel systems or +4ghz on amd systems.
This is only a OC of 31%, my new amd venice probably does a 67% OC (1,2ghz oc), thats on liqued. (+ good intels clock higher in mhz then amd,s).
For e.g

i was only able to get 900mhz on air with my barton im suprised he only kept it a 5ghz, 6 should be doable with phase, even tho its "only" -40, unless thats the safe stress cap on teh cpu itself..

look am me, i have a prescott 1.2Ghz OC and running all the time. the temps are high using air cooling in a garage where it reaches 120 everyday of the summer so far. I brought it inside to an aircondidtioned room and the temp dropped down to 43 celcius.
with soo many overclockers here, we should come up with a few tutorials, and thoughs on overclocking.

I do believe someone on the CB team is working on it. We'rte pretty busy getting other things in order currently though. We'll keep an official guide in mind though

It's common to see AMD fx-55 overclocked to 5ghz on phase cooling, but it's not saying much as most people will not beable to setup the system and maintain it. The article also doesn't mention how loud and difficult a phase cooling system is. Now if it was on a liquid cooling system, then that'll be pretty impressive.
