windows xp/vista bootloader problem
I recently partitioned the harddrive on my dell machine running windows vista and installed windows xp. I installed dualbootpro on xp and have just recently tried to set up the boot manager. After the boot manager screen came up, I tried to load vista for the first time after installing dual bootpro and after trying to load it went back to the bootmanager screen. I then tried to load XP and "windows failed to start" and got the following error message.
File: \ntlder
Status: 0xc000000
Info: The selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt.
I feel really in over my head as I only have enough knowledge to get myself into trouble like this. Any help is greatly appreciated!
thank you
Re: windows xp/vista bootloader problem
Insert your Dell Vista OEM disk and boot to it.
Do a Startup repair
This should get Vista back up and running.
As for XP follow the guide below now that you got it installed.

Re: windows xp/vista bootloader problem
I tried running the repair tool from the Vista DVD and wasn't having much luck. I switched the hard drive to the AHCI setting as opposed to ATA and was able to get Vista to run. Do you think this will effect how I change the boot files on Vista using the guide you mentioned previously? Thanks again!

I can't seem to find the boot.ini file by searching my computer though I have unchecked the hide protected operating system files. Any idea of where I could find this file or how I could create it?
thanks again,

Re: windows xp/vista bootloader problem
1. Your boot.ini may be missing now, you can create it via notepad.
2. Your XP will probably not run now since switching back to ATA. You will need to use a program like nLite to create a bootable XP disk with the proper drivers for your harddrive controller. Once done you will need to reinstall XP.
