hey i just read about this and havn't seen it posted on here so here it is

it explains how windows 7 will bring in wddm 1.1 which is used to render aero using dx10 instead of dx9 like it is on vista, this brings with it a bunch of gpu memory optimisations.

Most importantly for gamers dx11 will be included with windows 7 (and will also be available for vista), and suprisingly some of the new features coming in direct x 11 like better multithreaded support will be available to current dx10 hardware through updated drivers. Also with dx11 things like native gpgpu support and Heterogeneous grpahics card support.
