Added new Boot Menu Entry when I changed OS name

Postby gregrocker » Tue Nov 25, 2008 7:05 am

Hi. I was directed to VIsta Boot Pro 3.3 for its ability to change the name of an OS listed in the Boot Menu. I just wanted to change the name of my second OS from Microsoft XP to Microsoft XP Media Center Edition, which I did. But then I booted up and the menu now had a third listing, moving Microsoft XP up to the top of the list over my Vista Ultimate default. I can boot into both my default Vista and the newly named XP but haven't tried booting into the unwanted 3rd listing.

I refreshed the Vista Boot Pro "View Settings" tab and it quite clearly says I only have the two OS with the renamed one correct:

There is currently 2 OS(s) installed on your system.
The current boot timeout is: 10

Default OS: Microsoft Windows Vista Black Edition 2009

Entry 1
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Name: Microsoft Windows Vista Black Edition 2009
BCD ID: {current}
Boot Drive: C:
Windows Drive: C:
System Bootloader: \Windows\system32\winload.exe
Windows Directory: \Windows

Entry 2
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Name: Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition
BCD ID: {ntldr}
Boot Drive: D:
System Bootloader: \ntldr

However if I click the Details radio button, it shows where the third one is hiding:

Windows Boot Manager
--------------------
identifier {bootmgr}
device partition=C:
description Windows Boot Manager
locale en-US
inherit {globalsettings}
default {current}
displayorder {4047f563-b946-11dd-818c-001676ae16d5}
{current}
{ntldr}
toolsdisplayorder {memdiag}
timeout 10

Real-mode Boot Sector
---------------------
identifier {4047f563-b946-11dd-818c-001676ae16d5}
device partition=D:
path \NTLDR
description Microsoft XP

Windows Boot Loader
-------------------
identifier {current}
device partition=C:
path \Windows\system32\winload.exe
description Microsoft Windows Vista Black Edition 2009
locale en-US
inherit {bootloadersettings}
osdevice partition=C:
systemroot \Windows
resumeobject {2d18120d-b8e1-11dd-90a6-80d80f841aa4}
nx OptIn
quietboot Yes
bootlog No
sos No

Windows Legacy OS Loader
------------------------
identifier {ntldr}
device partition=D:
path \ntldr
description Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition

The old name is now a Real Mode Boot Sector while the renamed OS is now a Legacy OS Loader, which of course I do not want.

I just wanted to change the name to XP's full correct name.

Can anybody tell me how to undo this? Thanks.
