Please Help - Vista and XP Dual Boot[FINALLY RESOLVED]

Postby silent bob » Sun Mar 11, 2007 10:34 pm

I spent all night installing Vista onto what was then my C:drive and XP onto my D:drive.

I came across Vista Boot Pro and have been trying to get it to work since! At first it came up with both Vista and the Earlier version of Windows at the operating system choices menu which is what I wanted!

However Vista worked but XP did not (it just went back to the choice menu).

Since then I have messed around to much and it just boots straight to Vista without even showing the menu!

This is what the 'View Settings Tab@ currently shows -

There is currently 2 OS(s) installed in the boot manager.
Current timeout before default boots: 0
Default OS: Windows Vista

Entry # 1
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Name: Windows Vista
BCD ID: {current}
Boot Drive: C:
Windows Drive: C:
System Bootloader: \windows\system32\winload.exe
Windows Directory: \Windows

Entry # 2
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Name: Windows XP
BCD ID: {ntldr}
Boot Drive: D:
Windows Drive:
System Bootloader: \ntldr
Windows Directory:

Also, I now cant run Diagnostics without an error message!

edit - fixed that diagnostic error using the thread at the top! Doesnt realy help me much but thats one less error!

edit 2 - I now get the Dual boot screen again with the choice of Vista and XP! However only Vista works still :x

I had it set at 0 seconds boot delay!

It seems as though it isnt looking in the right place for XP!

Do you have ntldr, NTDETECT, boot.ini copied to the root directory of C: and D:

Within Vista turn off the hide system files and folders and do a search for the files.

ntldr = In D:/windows/servicepackfiles and

D:/windows/softwaredistribution/download

ntdetect = Same as above

boot.ini = found boot.ini.backup in D:/windows

D:\ drive is the XP drive so I guess there not on the C:\ drive (vista)

You will need ntldr, NTDETECT, and boot.ini on both drives root directory. You can try renaming the boot.ini.bak to boot.ini and see what happens. If need be we can change the ini file.
