Is your HDD a SATA?
You mentioned you were trying to install XP with a SP1 CD........ not going to happen unless you have the SATA driver for your SATA controller on a floppy
EDIT: Nevermind, it appears you already got SP2 installed after the initial installation.
The only thing I can think of now is, because your Vista partition is the SYSTEM drive, you need to have all your XP boot files on the root of the Vista partition:
boot.ini
ntldr
ntdetect.com

All three files are in the root directory of drive c: Vista and drive e: Xpro

Your entry for Legacy OS (earlier version of windows) is incorrect in Vistabootpro
delete that entry
recreate an entry for Legacy OS and point it to drive E:

I see exactly what you mean and VBP even tells me that I need to specify a drive letter but I don't see exactly where to change the drive letter. I'm guessing when I go to tools and legacy editor I need to change something but I'm not sure what. Any advice? Below is what the legacy editor shows.

That is your boot.ini file is is ONLY for XP and earlier versions of Windows. Vista does NOT use boot.ini. You need VistaBootPro to change the option I am talking about.

Look at entry #3 on previous page. It is pointing to ntldr which is correct it just did not know what drive letter.

YES, After a tough weekend and a permanent imprint in my forehead from banging it on the keyboard it works. I can actually dual boot both Vista and XP.
