On Monday, January 25, 2010 I attended the World Premiere of
The Kids Are All Right at the Sundance Film Festival. The screening was held in the 446-seat Library Theatre in Park City, Utah.
Directed by Lisa Cholodenko from a script she co-wrote with Stuart Blumberg,
The Kids Are All Right is a comedic drama about a suburban family with a twist. Julianne Moore and Annette Bening play a married couple whose two young children, portrayed by Josh Hutcherson and Mia Wasikowska, decide to seek out their sperm donor father. The film easily transitions from clever and witty to poignant and moving, taking the viewer on a roller coaster ride of emotions.
I rated the film a 5/5 and selected it as one of my
Top 5 Picks from this year's festival (see
MY REVIEW). Following the screening, the film was acquired for distribution by Focus Features for a reported $5 million. This was their first pickup in two years and the largest deal of the festival.
Here are some pictures I shot at the Q&A and afterward. Director Lisa Cholodenko was joined onstage by lead actors Julianne Moore, Josh Hutcherson, Mia Wasikowska, and Mark Ruffalo.
