Jesse Eisenberg (
The Squid and the Whale, Adventureland) and Michael Angarano (
Sky High, The Forbidden Kingdom) will soon be appearing in
Ceremony, from first-time writer/director Max Winkler. Acclaimed producer Jason Reitman (
Juno) oversees the project along with producer Daniel Dubiecki.
In this surefire comedy hit, a woman is about to be married to her British suitor when an infatuated young admirer (Eisenberg) attempts to break up the wedding. He enlists his best friend (Angarano) in the mission. Additional cast members are to be announced. Production begins later this year with a projected 2010 release date.
The film was originally titled
The Wedding when Jason Reitman picked up Winkler's script late last year.
Eisenberg has been featured in a string of noteworthy independent films dating back to his first feature, 2002's
Roger Dodger. That indie gem was followed by
The Emperor's Club, The Village, The Squid and the Whale, The Education of Charlie Banks, and
Adventureland, helping to secure him a place in the pantheon of bankable young stars (he's now 25). He has four films in post-production for projected release later this year.
Angarano is one of the most sought-after under 25-year-old actors in America. His body of work includes 30 theatrical and television films as well as over 50 television appearances on sitcoms and dramatic series.
He has completed eight motion pictures since the spring of 2005. Three hit theaters within a three month time frame in the fall of 2007:
Black Irish, The Final Season, and
Man in the Chair. Two more were released less than two weeks apart last spring:
Snow Angels and
The Forbidden Kingdom. He recently completed work on Jared Hess'
Gentlemen Broncos, teaming up again with his
Snow Angels co-star Sam Rockwell. Fox Searchlight plans to release the film later this year.
Readers of this blog have been treated to videos and pictures of Q&As, interviews, and more as I've been fortunate to cover the World Premieres of five of his last six films.
