Postby smash rat on Fri Jul 27, 2007 2:57 am

Ok now im sure you guys are sick of these scenarios, but im not having any luck with most of the guides on the net. Now ive installed XP after i Installed vista, and it has removed vista's boot options as you know. Now you guys are saying vista boot pro is the way to go, one problem, i cant get onto Vista, duh, anyway to see if it would work on XP i downloaded it.

after 20 error messages later complaing about vistas new boot system i followed through the tutorials (boot loader), and nothing, when i restarted it still ran XP, now please help me.

P.S i dont have a vista disk.

See if you can locate the file "bootmgr" and the folder "Boot". If you can not locate that file and folder then you will not be able to get Vista to boot. If you have them on your hard driver then let me know. If you have them on your hard drive then post an image of your disk manager and contents of your XP boot.ini

In order to repair your system you really need a Vista Boot Dsik. You will need the file bootmgr and the folder Boot (and contents)

well same problem here guys,
I installed xp and after installing the vbp i had the boot menu, i booted in xp but could not boot to vista.BUT if you choose on the system bootloader tab the windows legacy bootloader(uninstall vista bootloader) option and all drives you will be able to boot to vista. then you have to install vbp on vista as well and do the same thing if you want to boot to xp. I know its a pain in the @ss to boot to vista and do all this just to restart so you can boot on xp but this is all i came up with and shared it with you!
If some one finds any better solution please post

You shoudl not have to do that, boot to XP, VistaBootPro, Boot Manager, Install Vista Bootloader, ALL drives, Install Bootloader.

That should load boot the XP and the Vista in your initial boot menu. If not, boot to your Vista install DVD and do a repair instead of install. If that does not work then you may not have the proper files on the System/Boot partition.

Yup, you should definatly Do a repair of you Vista Installation.

How?:

1. Put your Vista DVD in your DVD Drive.
2. Make sure the "Boot Device Priority in your BIOS is correct.
3. On the "Welcome to Setup" Screen Select your Keyboard layout and your language.
4.On the "Install Windows Vista" screen, Select "repair your computer"
5. Now, in the dialog box, select your vista installation.
6. In this Windows, Select "Startup Repair".

This should do it... if it doesent you have some missing files.

Hope it works though!!

I have the same problem as above, that is, I have a Toshiba laptop with pre-installed Vista Home Premium. I installed XP Pro in D partition (Vista is in C) after shrinking and creating new partition. I downloaded and installed Vista Boot Pro as instructed and followed the standard instructions. There is no "install" button in the bottom right hand corner in XP version. I tried to do a "force install" but it still did not install. I have tried another boot manager utility but the Vista Boot Manager seems to be missing. I have done re-install, repair installations more than once and hope to avoid doing it again. The Boot manager shows all operating systems but the Vista will not boot up. I only have the restore disk from Toshiba that has Vista included. If I do a full install the entire hard drive is deleted and I lose XP. I can do a repair of Vista from that disk and get Vista back but then I can't boot the XP. Any solutions or suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks MM

1 reinstalling vista from toshiba dvd allows to shrink it to the littleast some 12 or 13 Gig.

2 on empty space create 3 partitions
D 15 gig for XP
E 15 gig for clone of xp
F for storage.

3 install xp in D from XP CD, Time to give XP its 15 Gigs using xp cd

4 run XP create E and F from diskmgmt adm tools

5 change target of xp docs send 'em to F, right click docs start button

6 D will be logical clone it to E

7 repair vista run it

8 if you want to run xp, back up D from E et caetera

ps: this is just in case you really really want to use that vista thing, check link in avatar to see how it does on a little hard drive
