Sounds like something is getting ready to fail to me. How old is it, what brand, model etc.

It is really old but has been surprising working fine! until last week when it started to give me that message right after I login. I have to reinstall it

Seems like something is just corrupt with Windows. You can try a scandisk but maybe a fresh install would be best for such an old system.

i agree, there are some long drawn out possible fixes for this, but I would boot to safe mode, save anything that you need, and reinstall. if you have a valid copy of xp home should be no problem
