xp doesn't appear in boot menu after installation
please help! this has consumed both of my days off! from: http://www.pro-networks.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=706137#706137
ok, i followed the instructions and finally got it to work, but now vistaboot doesn't "see" win xp, even though it is installed and run in xp. go figure. on the os list i have:
vista (c drive)
hp recovery manager (d drive, the back up drive)
no "older version of windows", e drive or whatever. when i restart, i can only choose from the top two. what to do?
love,
eor
had to redo the entire xp installation process because it won't see it, so i can't get back to it; so i had to erase the partition and start over.
replies:
This is what I did to install Windows XP AFTER Vista with NO Vista DVD:
1. Using vista I made 3 partition for c:vista, d:winxp and e:data
2. Install XP then continue install the VistaBootPRO.
3. In VistaBootPRO create an entry to winxp and make sure to direct it to drive E:
(yes i know winxp is in d: but if you map it to d: then u will face problem)
i do not know why xp boot.ini was created/stored at e:
you can confirm this by open the boot.ini and it will show partition(3)
4. Then write MBR to install vista bootloader
5. Copy paste NTLDR & NTDETECT from XP cd to root e:
6. After restart u should see the dual boot menu.
Good Luck

ok, i have the 3 partitions in place, c:vista, d:data and e: xp. so i made a new entry in vistaboot directing it to d, which i think is what you meant for me.
i opened the legacy editor and it only shows partition 2 and 3, both which point to win xp. is that what you meant by boot.ini?
you're going to have to clarify steps 4 & 5; don't know what those are. sorry, i'm bad at this.
i am very sorry eor (and also to everybody else)
i posted a very confusing(and not quite right) procedure
but already make the correction at :

if u could remove the old replies above that would be great
