You begin by reading about it.

The primary purpose of the DATA statement is to give names to constants; instead of referring to pi as 3.141592653589793 at every appearance, the variable PI can be given that value with a DATA statement and used instead of the longer form of the constant. This also simplifies modifying the program, should the value of pi change.

Have tried a simple Hello world app using notepad and saved it with .xaml extension.
when i c this in the XAMLON Viewer the button with the caoption is not created.
Do i need some SDK for Avalon when i write <Button></Button>?..i have VS 2003 and .NET framework v 1.1 and working on Windows 2000 Pro.
Need some assistance.

Shouldn't need an IDE or anything special, just a text editor. In order to "run" the XAML app you will need an XAML interpreter/parser installed. You mentioned you are using Xamlon, the basic "Hello World" worked fine for me using Xamlon.

What i mean is i created the sample and when i double click on it the XAMLON opens the file but i dont see a button being created with the Hello World caption all i see is a XAMLON logo inplace of the button.
Since the <Button> creates an instance of the button class do i need to install anything else besides XAMLON application?

While going through an article on XAML Programming i came upon the following line
"Xamalon lets you create XAML applications for WinXP right now"
So i take from this that XAMLON may not support rendering the xaml file on Windows 2000 Pro even though i can install it.
Hence will try it from home directly on Longhorn. If anyone can put a light on this as well will be helpful.[/b]

have to take in mind that XAML is fuzzy term - it is not only "way of describing ui" (syntax) but also semantics - many different complicated mechanisms connected to Avalon and other lh features (for exaple data binding)
xamlon had not implemented many of those semantic things - but those besic are in (not all: for example one can not embade code in xaml files in xamlon)
better get real lh (what is possible on this site ;p)
