"Wolverine" on the way to a $90M weekend?

Postby phileysmiley on Sat May 02, 2009 2:18 pm

Even rival studios are saying it's possible for the franchise prequel X-Men Origins: Wolverine to scoop up $90M this weekend if moviegoing stays strong, though a safer bet might be $85M.

How big is that compare to others during this same time frame?

I would like to see it, but the reviews thus far haven't been so stellar.

Weekend numbers aren't in yet but overall it was the 16th biggest Opening Day of all time.

For the opening day of any weekend in May it was #9.

For the opening day of the first weekend in May (the traditional kickoff of the summer blockbuster season) it was #4.

Compared to last year, Iron Man opened the same weekend and took in $35.2 M (vs $32 for Wolverine). Iron Man ended up taking in $98 M this weekend last year.

So right now it's just behind last year's first May weekend winner.
