Windows7 and XP booting but XP drive not changed to C:

Postby ArsenioAndaya » Mon Nov 05, 2012 12:00 am

I added on another drive a Windows XP with existing Windows 7 on original drive. Following up procedure to load boot loader, I have both systems booting up, that is both systems are running. However, with XP, the drive letter does not change to C:. The drive letter C showing up when XP is booted is where the Windows 7 is installed. For Windows 7, everything is fine.
I used a registered DualbootPro in doing the set up.
Please help to make drive for XP change to C when selected to boot.
Thanks.

I added below the code for boot.ini:
It looks like this is not processed as I don't see the words ="Windows XP on G:\" on the boot menu.

[boot loader]
timeout=15
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windows XP on G:\" /fastdetect

Do you have different types of drives, i.e. SATA, IDE, or solid state mixed?

Both Hard Drives are SATA.
The Windows 7 was recently installed as an upgrade to Vista in the first Hard Drive. This drive has 3 partitions, the first one which is not assigned a drive letter is an OEM partition containing only 39 MB, the second one, Drive C (288 GB) is where Vista and later on Windows 7 is installed, and the third one, Drive D (10 GB) is a RECOVERY partition, where DELL recovery files are installed.
The Windows XP was installed on the other Hard Drive (300 GB) having only 1 partition (assigned drive letter G in the Disk Management.)
Drive letters E and F are assigned to CD/DVD drives.

I think the problem is with the recovery partition not having a drive letter, this guide should help remedy that
