I deleted all my temp internet files, browsing history, and cookies, rebooted a couple times, completely shut everything down, and then rebooted/restarted the modem, then the router, and finally the computer(s).

You did all that to get the RA to work too

Seem-2-me that Vail still needs the WHS team to fix this before it hits RC.
Hopefully before the next public build, if there is one.

I was trying everything, not sure exactly what finally made it work, maybe all of the above.

I thought maybe it was that I had created the new user, but then I had already did the port forwarding thing, which made the computer backup work, but not the remote access, that is when I created the new user. I sorta stumbled onto that I needed a new user, when I tried signing in Remotely using Administrator and the password, and got this message;

"To protect the security of your home network, you cannot sign in remotely by using the Administrator user account. To manage your home network remotely, sign in with your own user account. Then in Computers, click Connect next to your server name to connect to the Windows Home Server Dashboard."

And I realized, that Duh I had not created a new user, I had attached or connected computers, but not created a New User, so I don't know exactly what was the final straw that got it working.

I am going to wait for the next build/milestone before I waste any more time w/ RA on my WHS Vail setup.

Hopefully the WHS team will get it fixed & publish a guide to test/set-it-up.

*I am just happy that the full rig backup/restore works, especially on the rig that WHS v.1 didn't work on.

I keep getting a "Critical Alert" that says the router is not configured, even though it is and working, I just ignore it.

It would be nice if the Server would backup to other than an external drive, e.g. across the network to another HD or to another internal HD

Ok scratch the last remark, it says it has to be and external drive, but I just added another internal drive and set it up to backup the server, perhaps in the final release it won't work, but for now it does.

JD,
Hope this isn't a dumb question, but Have you checked your Device Manager to see if maybe there is a device that is not configured or is missing a driver or something like that

No not a dumb question :no

Yes, awhile back I did that & of the 4 (LAN/NIC?) were listed 1 was working, so I updated the rest & 3/4 are good now. One was/is not available to Vail/Server x64's liking so its still NA.

I can live w/o RA & having a website featuring my vacation photos & stuff.
I really dont like to leave the WHS machine running all the time anyway.

Maybe you can live without it working but I can't, I hate it when things don't work right. We have to get yours working so I can sleep at night!!!!!!!!!!! LOL
