Don't get all "foamy at the mouth" for this one............. there are lots of quirks and it appears to be designed as a dedicated "Backup Server" type thing. Not that a backup server is a bad idea or anything, but the implementation of the WHS network console and getting systems to connect IMO is far from cut N dry............. I still haven't been able to connect a client system using WHS and the connect CD...........

I have found it easier to simply image my OS's for backup..... doesn't take a seperate server box and to me, well worth the reduced effort.

Oh if its more of a back-up server then I don't know how interested I am in it. I'd use it, but I am looking to host files more than have a back-up server. Decisions, decisions

I don't think that "hosting" is in the cards on this one (except maybe for your home network), as each client has to run the Connect CD, log in and set up backup options. I don't see hosting as an option at this point

It does appear to have quite a few quirks, but the features sure look interesting :yesnod:

The install goes much like a Vista install.................. only with A LOT more restarts........... but the colors and such are Vista-ish in appearance. For features, you can set up user accounts and each user account including any shared server (Hosted folders/files located on the server) by default get "duplication" service, which I interpret to be "mirroring", but not in the technical sense of using a HDD partition to mirror. It seems WHS is using folders and their contents and using a service to mirror (Duplicate) them to storage drives that are set up on the server.

I did see some remote settings in there................... Now THAT would be a fabulous solution that many of my own customers have wanted for years. This backup thing though.................. I'm not so sure about that......lol

The backup feature is realy powerful, as it only stores ONE copy of any identical files, including all system files, so that using identical OSes on various Client rigs, one copy of the Windows files will serve as a backup for ALL of them :yesnod:

OK, if everyone in the family is a maniac downloader, thinks could possibly get hairy :P

It's certainly not as good as I thought, I assumed they would build a stripped down and updated version of Server 2003 which is a very good server os and tailor it for Home Users. This seems to put too much emphasis on backups and not enough on the rest of the functions a home user might want, the connector cd thing does not work properly either, lets hope they fix a number of these things in builds to come. Now if only I could get on the Longhorn Server Beta......
