AARRRRRGHHHHHHH!!!

You know how when you are copying files and it comes to a file that cannot be copied it said "bla bla cannot be copied or replaced?" Then you have to click OK and, yup, the entire process stops. It doesn't skip the file and pick up where you left off.

I have been copying over my files for over an hour and I encountered a file that could not be copied. Now the whole process stopped and I have no idea where it left off.

Now what? :unsure:

==========
EDIT: It looks like it made it past Application Data, Contacts, Cookies, Desktop, Favorites, and Larry's Documents. It got stuck at Local Settings. So it's something in there which stopped it.

=============
EDIT 2: I skipped Local Settings and copied everything else in the profile below that. It all copied over fine. So that narrows it down to something in the Local settings folder and I'm trying to copy that one folder again now.

===============
EDIT 3: It's a file called AntiPhishing. It's in the Temporary Internet Files folder. I skipped it and I'm done. ^*^

==================
EDIT 4: I logged off and into the new profile as instructed. All the documents are there but the data didn't seem to take and the programs didn't start. I decided to restart. Disk check popped up.

====================
EDIT 5: On restart, all my programs loaded but not all the settings. For example, my folder settings like Details view, Control Panel view, Desktop tolbar missing, Quick Launch toolbar missing, etc. In short, dozens and dozens of personalizations that it takes me weeks to set up as I get used to a new Windows reinstall.

yeah a lot of those settings are stored in the registry under the user profile and some in the ntuser files.

Oh well, I guess I just have to redo them. Everything else looks okay, though. I suppose I can delete the old User. I almost maxed out my HD and only have 3.59G left. Good thing I had enough room.

How big is the hard drive and what do you have on it to take up that much. That has already approach dangerously full. You really need to be gettign rid of something big time.

It's an old Dell with 55.9 total GB.

Actually I should specify that it's C which is close to full. I have Vista on a partition 21.39 GB with 6.37 free.

C is 32.50 GB and 28.91 is taken up, but remember I just copied 7 GB from one User to another. If I delete the old user I free up 7 GB and XP will have 12.59 free.

There's also a 2 GB empty partition.

I followed MS instructions and imported all my Outlook files & folders & address book (since they don't transfer over when you copy all the other User info). At this point, according to them, I can delete the old profile.

-----------------
EDIT: Wow, after importing OE files & folders & contacts I was down to 2.45 GB free. Whew.

--------------
EDIT 2: I deleted the old profile. Now I'm running Disk Cleanup to (hopefully) get my space back.

---------------
EDIT 3: Turns out that I didn't gain any space back because when Windows deleted the old User Profile it only deleted the access to the profile, not anything in it. All the files are still there. So I am going into C to delete them.

--------------
EDIT 4: I wasn't able to delete all the files in the old profile folder because some files could not be deleted, so I had to go in and one by one try to delete what I could. I ended up not being able to delete everything because there were files it said were in use or bla bla bla. But I deleted all but some Local Settings and App Data, and after running Disk Cleanup again I now have 9.09 GB free, so I'm in better shape. The entire contents of the old profile that are left is only 57.3 MB anyway.
