Windows 8 Build 7989 Install & Testing

Postby shreader » Sat Jun 25, 2011 10:45 pm

Last week a M3 build of Windows 8 leaked online.

The leaked build is: 6.2.7989.0.amd64fre.winmain.110421-1825.iso
It is a Windows 8 x64 client - Ultimate version

It is quite similar to the previous Win8 version, except that this one has a new beta fish start-up screen (among other things).

I like the beta fish startup and the new wait/working thingie

This build seemed to take longer to install, and I didn't care for it requiring a password and password hint to continue. (Was able to go into Control Panel later and remove under user account)
I read where some were saying that this version didn't support a keyboard, didn't run into that at all

I'm using Avira, my install said it was successful.
The first scan only did 570 files though, at least it says the real time protection is working ^*^

Did you get your copy activated?
I tried several Win7 beta keys, then finally found 1 that worked.

Here are a couple of more screen shots from this build.

Image

Immersive Browser (IB), only appears in upper left corner, cannot stretch or move (not very exciting atm).
Image

To turn on IB one must:
1) disable aero (ctrl+shift+F9)
2) browse to Program Files /Microsoft /Immersive Browser /Microsoft.ImmersiveBrowser /miexplore.

Edit: I found that this IB stays running in the background & when one disables aero (again) the IB window pops-up @ the IE home page

I listened to a podcast the other day (Windows Weekly w/Paul Thurotte) where the topic was Windows 8; from the discussion it sounds like it will be mostly consumer oriented (IMO) and that MS is not concerned about business/corporate migrations to Windows 8. They also covered if v8 was simply a "Interface/GUI upgrade" and it sounds like it is not, which to me is good news. Hope your all having fun with the beta ^*^

I have not had that problem either.
-------------------------

I tried out the Tablet PC Input Panel (TPC) that is included w/ this build.

Here are some screenshots of how it works.

Taskbar start-up location

Interface & typing into WordPad, note TPC trying to help

Closed/hidden in desktop side, a click & it pops-out

At this stage, the only way I found to shut-it-down is through the Task Manager
