Windows 7 SP1 installation

Postby Rollin on Thu Apr 08, 2010 3:59 am

Today a build of Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1/Windows 7 SP1 leaked to the internet, so I grabbed a copy & installed it in a fresh Windows 7 install on a VPC.
File name: 7601.16537.100327-0053_Update_Sp_Wave0-B1SP1.0_DVD.iso

It took approximately 14 minutes to complete the install & I experienced no glitches.

Here are a few screenshots

Seems strange that MS would put out a document like this w/ something like this so obvious.

But it looks like a typo.

Looks like it did leak

Don't really need to install it yet though, no knew features that I know of, just your standard updates pushed into an easy package

I have seen a short list of some of the new features, but they are all of them concerned with improved server database management, so that client-side they are of little or no use.

Microsoft's policy concerning Service Packs is that they generally just contain the bug fixes and security patches, and some minor under the hood tweaking -- XP SP2 being the HUGE exception to that rule...

This week another build of Windows 7 SP1 was available online.

I downloaded a copy, uninstalled the earlier version & installed this newer one.
No I'll effects noticed besides I noticed that the Task manager only shows 1 CPU of my quad core whereas the earlier SP1 showed all 4.

Here's a few screen shots.

I refer this one as v. 172
