Starting today, April 12, 2005, we will start awarding "Editor's Writing" and "Chairman's Writing" awards to various posts around the forum. We will mostly award Reviews and Evaluations, both by staff and users in their respective forums.
We are giving this award based on these standards:
1) Quality of the review. Does the review give the bare minimum or does it give the full story? We're looking for the full scoop; just not overdone.
2) Ease of Use/Understanding. Is the review too "tech" for most users, is it too explanatory, OR is it friendly enough for all to understand? We're looking for simple explanations, but not put into complete newbie terms either. Some experience should be expected of readers.
3) Quality of comments received. If you have received good comments and/or reviews by the fellow members, there's a good chance we'll take that into mind.
4) Brevity. Less is more. The better you can explain your review and get your message out, in the shortest space... the better. No one wants to read a book; they want a review. We'll be keeping that in mind.
5) Interest factor. If it puts us to sleep... it's likely to be avoided by others as well. Keep us interested, teach us something (or what we feel will teach others), and you're likely to see the gold or globe.
Editor's Writing Award vs. Chairman's Writing Award:
The primary difference in the awards is that ANY Officer or Vice Officer on the site can award the "Editor's Writing" award, but only the Chairman can award the "Chairman's Writing" award.
The "Editor's Writing" award is given for reviews ranking from "above standard" to a rank of "good" for newsposts, stories, etc. The "Editor's Writing" award is worth a SINGLE (1) Review Point. Award given at the sole discretion of the Officers and/or Vice Officers, including the Chairman.
The "Chairman's Writing" award is given for reviews ranking as "superior" and "excellent," again for newsposts, stories, etc. The "Chairman's Writing" award is worth five (5) Review Points. Award given at the sole discretion of the Chairman, John C. Derrick.
Have a suggestion for who should win an award or want to nominate your own review? Post a link in this thread and we'll take it into consideration.
Only ONE award EACH can be given per review. You can win both awards (for a total of 6 points) for each review.
Rules of Award:
1) Third party sources are fine... just list them. If you copy/paste you won't see this award. Rewording is fine... just make sure the message/review is unique to you.
2) Don't review/comment on what you don't have experience with if you expect to win the award. We'll be able to tell, and this goes hand-in-hand with the first rule.
3) If you use the award in a post the award wasn't given to (if you post the award without receiving it, basically), you will be put on a Warning Strike here at the site. We take the award very seriously... using it when you didn't receive it will NOT be tolerated.
Rewards & Prizes:
<img src="http://www.pronetworks.org/main/images/blurb/ipodshuffle.gif" align="right">The winner* of the most "Editor's Writing" and/or "Chairman's Writing" award points at the end of the 2005 calendar year (December 31, 2005) will win a FREE iPod Shuffle from Apple.com. Subject to terms below.
*Terms:
1) Contest ends at 11:50pm EST on December 31, 2005. Prize(s) will be awarded (via announcement) no later than January 10, 2006. Prizes will be mailed no later than January 20, 2006; shipping times may vary. All forum members are eligible to receive this award.
2) Winner must be active on the site at the time of the award, regardless of the date they joined.
3) Winner must be actively involved on the complete website of PROnet. Posting of just reviews for the purpose of obtaining the award will not be accepted. At least 15% of the user's posts must reside outside the reviews area. The prize is awarded based on number of award points, not post counts or site/staff status.
4) All eligible contestants will be responsible for reporting their award point counts (number of total awards per the specifications above: 1 per EW Award and 5 points per CW awards) to John Derrick (Kamapua'a) and Alistair MacMillan (Mac33) by no later than January 5, 2006 (via the PM system on this site). This award point count will be checked by the staff of PROnetworks, and the contestant with the highest reported and verified award point count will win the prize. Failure to provide count numbers (even if they are the winning numbers) to John and Mac by the date required will result in ineligibility of winning. YOU MUST submit your own point counts and they will be verified.
5) Upon being declared the winner, the individual must provide an address suitable for shipment of the iPOD Shuffle. Failure to do so within 30 days will result in forfeiture of the prize.
6) Second and Third Place prizes will be awarded, and those prizes will be announced at a later date in 2005.
7) The winner of this award must be a registered user and meet the requirements of Terms 2 & 3. In addition, all Members and Staff of PROnetworks below the rank of Officer and/or Vice Officer are eligible for this Award. Again, the prize is awarded based on number of award points, not post counts or staff status.
8) Only ONE reviews award EACH can be given per review. You can win both awards (for a total of 6 points) for each review only.
9) Prize(s) may be substituted for a prize of equal or greater value prior to contest closing date. If you are the winner and already own an iPOD Shuffle, we can arrange for a different, pre-approved, prize.
10) These terms are subject to being modified and/or changed at any time prior to the award ending date.

Many would be suprise how often a review is given on a product without even having it.
