'Delicate Sound Of Thunder' - Pink Floyd

Always reminds me of going up to Brands Hatch with our son in his booster seat in the Mini! ^*^

David Archuleta (self-titled)
Debuted at #2
Single "Crush" debuted at #1 on iTunes

Most teen Disney heroes have got nothing on David Archuleta. The 17-year-old who was one of the most exciting "American Idol" contenders has one of those once-in-a-decade pop voices: A silky tenor with a natural melancholy that makes him a heartbreaker by default. His charming debut exploits that very quality with some strokes of pop genius, like "Touch My Hand," a temporary love ballad to the pretty girl in the front row, and "Your Eyes Don't Lie," a Jonas Brothers-do-"No Diggity" ditty with a fair amount of crooner slink. But Archie is at his best on the bleeders, like piano ballad "To Be With You," and "Angels," the Robbie Williams cover he saved from obscurity on "Idol. These are the kinds of performances meant for arenas.

This might be kind of redundant asking this (because I'm sure the answer is 'yes') but anyone ever listen to Holst's The Planets? I have to say, I'm not much for classical but that suite is awesome. Especially Jupiter! :yesnod:

Never heard it and although I have a few classical albums (Beethoven, Chopin and some others) I don't really listen to it very often. Lately I've been listening to some animal classical music though...my poop dog just loves it and immediately (well within minutes anyway), relaxes and lies down with his eyes shut. It's really well researched and put together by Tom Nazziola who did the music score for Baby Einstein :yesnod:

I actually used to play this on the radio when I was a DJ. :yesnod: Great stuff.

Goes well with King Crimson - Court of the Crimson King.

Sweet! Actually it is funny after having listened to this and a few other classical songs I have, it isn't that hard to pick out some elements that influence music even today. Obviously, it's harder with classical music than with music that is only a few years old, but there are common elements. Music is nothing but people imitating and improving upon others' work.

@Grav!ty: I highly recommend checking it out. It is really well done... almost if a universal language.

I haven't been keeping up on this thread. Any Coldplay fans?

I'd put it this way -- there are only so many notes on the musical scale. No new ones have been invented or discovered since music was first played. Fancy that? So there can be no such thing as truly "original" music. All a songwriter or composer can do is take those same notes and arrange them in a way that is enjoyable. It would be quite a feat to accomplish this without somehow "imitating" or "copying" someone else's work, whether intentional or not. I always bristle when someone accuses a writer of "copying" someone else's music unless it is truly the same. Even copyright law recognizes this. We should praise writers who take what has come before and expand upon it, rather than condemn them.

I might be except I don't see them really expanding their musical horizons. To me they all sound the same (in spite of what I said above). I am amazed they won so many awards.
