What antispyware are you using?
I was just wondeing what everyone uses to protect themselves. I need to get some new spyware/ad ware programs. Could you tell me the name of the programs use you for protection?(No firewalls/anti virs, and I need it to be free)
Right now I have downloaded Ad-Aware SE and Spy Sweeper, I dont think I can use the spy sweeper to remove stuff, just scan so I need one that can remove things.(For free)

Most people have 2 of the following 3:
1) Spybot
2) Ad-Aware (free, pay version also has realtime)
3) Spysweeper (not free)
Spybot and Ad-Aware are free. All have on-demand scanning and removal (Spysweeper does remove them) plus Spybot and Spysweeper also protect in real time. Ad-Aware has a pay upgrade called Ad-Watch that also protects in real time.
In addition to those, I also have:
4) Windows Defender (formerly MS Antispyware)
5) Yahoo Anti-Spy (comes with Yahoo Toolbar)
6) Spyware Blaster
Yahoo Anti-Spy and Windows Defender both have on-demand scanning and removal plus Defender and Spyware Blaster protect in real time.
I have many OS's. On my main 3 here is what I have:
Laptop XP: 1, 2, 4, 5
XP: 1, 2, 3, 5, 6
x64: 3, 4, 5
Vista: 4 (so far -- just installed new build)
I also have WinPatrol on several OS's, which is also free and protects in real time for a number of processes (startup programs, BHO's, etc.).

Make sure you check out PROnetworks Spyware Guide. It lists all the popular programs and rates them.

EDIT: This is on XP For Vista, nothing really yet, as I haven't found an AV program for x86 that I like
Try Avast-It works just fine on Vista. AS for Spyware I use the folowing on both Xp and Vista
1. Ad Aware SE
2. Spyware Blaster
3. Spybot S & D
4. Windows Defender
All of the above are decent but i would always recommend using more than one.
I had fun once filling an install with pretty much all of the worst virus's, trojans, worms, spyware, malware you could think of.
I then tried each one of the above mentioned in turn and all of them will miss some items on their own...
And yes, for now Avast seems to be the best free antivirus solution for Vista though Symantec have a version of Antivirus Client that works with a fix from Microsoft :

Install this update to fix application compatibility issues with Symantec Antivirus version 10.0.1.622. Note that you must save the file to your local machine before running it.'
I have had problems with AVG free.
McAfee Enterprise seems to work too...

I think we're getting off topic here. This was the question:

I used to use PestPatrol until i found out that CA made something a normal person would describe as a deal, to not display potentially harmfull spyware-like code as a threat. After hearing that story, i went naked, without spyware-protection for a few months. Then Windows Anti Spyware came out and i've been using that ever since. It is now called Windows Defender as you might or might not know. I haven't been asked for any feedbackor been notified of anything possibly dangerous on my system yet.
