Yes, in this specific case, I would agree that Ubuntu is a good solution for the older machine :)

With so many different versions, apparently, if it ain't on the disc it is available to download free.
Also, it is supposed to be compatible with All Office applications.
Just to be sure, will stock up with headache tablets AND antacid stuff. :-)

I have never managed to get a network for download to work, apparently because Linux distro ever wanted to recognize my network devices until after the installation. I recommend simply installing a disc.
