Vista Boots XP Will Not
I have Vista on one Drive and XP on Another.
Using the motherboards Boot menu I can boot into either.
When in Vista Vistaboot shows both OS's
In Vista, the drive with Vista on shows as C: and the one with XP shows as G:
In XP, the drive with XP on shows as C: and the one with Vista shows as G:
Using VistaBoot I can load Vista, No problems.
However Trying to load XP either reboots back to the Vistaboot Menu or
Gives me an error, "Windows failed to start .......................
File: \ntldr
Status 0xc000000f
Info the selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt.
I know this to be false as I can boot to it as mentioned above.
I have even tried making another entry in the BCDStore info, with drive C: as the boot drive.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Hi,
Thanks for the quick response.
It a new computer and I installed Vista, only to find that Gemsafe software would not run.
As this is used for our Banking I was forced to Install XP.
Please don't tell me I have to reinstall both is the opposite order
Thanks
Peter

Going from bad to worse.
Followed the link and did this:
Open VistaBootPRO, ignore the prompt to backup your BCD. Go to the Bootloader tab and "Reinstall the Vista bootloader". Next, go to the Diagnostics item on the menu bar and select "Run Diagnostics". VistaBootPRO will default back to the Manage OS Entries page and you will see that you now have entries there for "Earlier versions of Windows" as well as "Microsoft Windows Vista".
Now I can not boot into either Vista or XP even from the Motherboard Boot Menu.
The error on both shows File: \boot\bcd
I have a screen capture of Disc Manager saved on the computer I am using to post this, but how on earth do I post it
I presume that I am going to have to run a repair on both XP & Vista Drives
Regards
Peter

Best way is to point yourself over to Imageshack.us and host the pic there, then copy the link it gives you and paste it into your next post.

That is a BIG no no. You need to let Vista handle your dual booting, not selecting you boot from the MB boot menu.

Well here is the image

However I couln't run a repair on either version, I had copied the XP to another disc using Acronis So I coped it back and I have just finished installing Vista from Within XP.
I am hoping all will now be well
Thanks
Peter

I see your in Vista good.
I see that XP is on disk 2
Since you are in vista you can unhide files and folders and copy
boot.ini, ntdetect, ntldr
to c:\ of Vista
Once these files are copied from G:\ to C:\
You can use VistaBootPro
delete any entries of XP/Legacy OS
Add a new entry Legacy OS and point it to drive G
This should
Remember that Vista takes over your boot system, makes it drive/partition the system drive. You then need on the system drive the boot files for XP since Vista and XP do not use the same boot files/sequence.
Is this clear or not?
