Virtual Skipper 2

In Virtual Skipper 2, you choose and command world-class racing boats, such as those used in the America's Cup. Once in charge, you then have to steer your boat around a course against competing vessels as fast as you can.

This is of course where the problem lie as you have to negotiate the wind. This, as in real life, isn't as easy as it sounds. To help you understand how the wind affects your progress, there's an arrow that highlights the wind's direction.

To show how suitable it is for you, it changes color as you move, from green for good, through blue and orange to red for bad. As well as having realistic boats and weather, the courses that you cover are also accurate and include such famous venues as Cowes.

In addition to coping with the wind, you also have to master which sails to use. Choose too small a sheet and you'll swiftly be left behind; choose too big and in the wrong conditions it could break, potentially losing you the race. Even if you have never set foot on a racing boat, this game is immense fun, if frustrating.

The graphics are good and the sounds realistic, although they do make the boats sound a bit like a 15th century galleon. Virtual Skipper 2 is engrossing but be careful. If you play too long, you might end up feeling a little seasick.
