Suggestions for good password reset / recovery software?

Postby Cornflake » Sun Apr 25, 2010 5:03 pm

Hi all,
I have a computer i'm trying to login in to with several different accounts. The person who gave it to me can't rememver their password for the account and 'Administrator' does not work and 'Guest' is disabled. I spent yesterday using a couple bootable CDs to try and just login to the PC... one was a linux live CD utility which I did not have all the technical knowledge to use. The second, called Offline NT Password & Registry Editor seemed very promising but despite trying to clear the password on several different accounts it still say they are disabled.

Is there any fairly simple to use utility (ie i can walk through myself, like the nt utility i mentioned above) that may work?

Otherwise would a repair install clear the user accounts?

- Thanks

Well this computer uses the classic login... when i type in 'Guest' as the name (with a blank password) it says its disabled even after using the offline nt editor to 'enable' it. When I use the Administrator name it just says 'the system could not log you on'. So I still can't get on to any account on the computer.... can i create a new one without logging in?

Also, a repair install does not clear the user passwords apparently :(

I hope this is not a dumb question but, When you are booting up, do you get two or more accounts to choose from, to log into and is one of then guest, and if so have you tried right clicking it to see if you get a menu

I found this doing a search for your problem there may be some help here, http://www.petri.co.il/forgot_administr ... ssword.htm
