A co-workers home PC that I recently did a clean install of Windows XP Pro on is now acting strange.

Some of the symptons include media player bombing out, Norton SW 2003 not even being able to finish installation before it rolls back, and some other random errors.

Any ideas? Is this a virus anyone know about? :confused

Thanks in advance.

Funnily enuff my dads pc started throwin up an error on media player, and any site, folder that had media player files on it, its recently reinstalled and i thought it could be a virus but just reinstalled a .dll and it seemed to fix it. But i still dont know what caused it?! Tho ive had no problems with Norton and it didnt find a virus, id b interested if this was a common problem with media player.

Hey Mike, did you try the online Virus Scans just to be sure?
Here

I haven't read any where of any virus causing the stated probs. but you never know. Also it could just be a bad Windows install, I have seen that more then once.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Computers are the strangest of things, and win XP makes ir even more so.
Here's a point that hasn't been made in this post, have you formatted the hard disc? Although this sounds like a virus, if you do a virus scan and nothing turns up, your best bet is to format the HD and reinsall win xp pro.
