Slalom Water Sking

Postby =S!X= Halo Hacker on Mon Apr 24, 2006 2:26 pm

I cant seem to get up on one water ski. Can anyone help me out?

I have tried
Starting on one ski
Starting with 2 skis and dropping one.

I lose my balance and I cant fit my foot in the back pocket very well My foot is a size 13 US.

New skis are out of the question
A ski School is out of the question
Someone holding me up-right while I start is not possible ethier.

Is anyone able to give me tips out there

Help!!

No, and there are docks around where I ski. But even if I'm already up and I drop one ski I still lose my balence.

You just gotta keep trying. Its probably reall frustrating and quite painful but the only way to figure it out is to keep trying it until you do. Maybe buy a bigger foot holder for the slalom ski?

have you tried switching which foot goes in front? i could not get up until I switched and went with my left foot forward. I also have my back foot (right) on the ski just not in the binder, then slide it forward. does your foot fit the rear binder when not in the water? or is it you just have trouble geting the back foot in? try just getting your back foot on the ski, see if you can stay up, then worry about getting the foot locked in.
oh, is this a individual slalom ski or part of a combo set? some of the individual slaloms are designed for fancy stuff and harder to get up on, until you get the hang of it.

on the combo sets you'll notice the slalom ski usually has a larger fin on the bottom for stability. if you're a big guy, you may want to see if this fin is changeable, and see if you can find a larger one to help until you get used to it.

just my 2 cents....

I have a slalom ski, But I'm learning on a combo set of a regular and slalom. The rear binder is not like the boot on the front. Its one you just slide your foot into. It has no back half of the boot.
BTW I'm not a big guy :)

Im 184 pounds

How do you get moving?

I just had another thought. are you using a single handle rope? that's what is most common. I used to get people to learn using a double handle rope. you put the ski between the handles that way the rope keeps the ski pretty steady until you start to get up. has your driver pulled slalom skiers before? slaloms take more power on the bottom to get you up and going quickly.

well by now you probably have an idea of which side your ski tends to go, make sure you put the rope on that side of the ski to kind of stabilize it for a bit.
