Screen Problem Dell

yesterday i kinda fixed a Dell Inspiron 1501 Laptop because when you start the laptop half the screen is black it doesn't Mather where you are in bios in windows setup or in the windows it is still black but once i pushed the top of the screen at the center the screen went normal and only left a red stripe in the middle of the screen but today when i do the same thing it doesn't work any ideas????? what could be wrong I'm open for any suggestions :dontgetit :dontgetit :unsure:

oh and another thing i think that laptop was dropped from a chair or something like that

It might be worthwhile taking the machine apart, or at least the lid, and checking the connections for the LCD screen. The plummet to the ground may have shaken something loose or dislodged a cable. The fact that you could rectify the problem, to an extent, by applying pressure to the top of the screen may indicate that it's something simple like this.

The other, worse, alternative is that the impact with the floor has physically damaged the screen, the cabling, the videocard/motherboard, etc.

i dont understand why did it work when i applied pressure couple a days and then it just didn't???

if the connection was/is loose or damaged, it could have finally become completely disconnected, which would cause it to suddenly stop working.

i tried to disconnect the connection and than connect it again but it didn't work and i can open the place where is the problem because there's allot of micro schemes and says DO NOT TOUCH and P.S. its not my laptop so i don't want to damage it more i plugged it onto a monitor and it works perfectly on it =] but thanks for the help

If an external monitor plugged into the laptop works fine but the built-in LCD is still having problems then my best guess is that there's something wrong with the LCD screen itself. If you're not happy to take the machine to pieces and do some serious work on it, you're probably better off getting whoever owns it to drop it off at a store that does laptop repairs.

there's no need the matrix itself is dead so ill just tell the owner to buy a new LCD or sell the old one and buy a new one but thanks for the help
