Running Vista-Installing XP-get blue screen!
I am running Vista. I have made a partition to install XP to. When I try to install XP with my disc, it will say I don't have a mass storage device installed. If I continue, I will get a blue screen. I have an HP HDX18 laptop. It has Insydeh20 for the bios. From what I can figure out, the bios doesn't have CSM (Compatability System Module) installed. (?) I believe if I hit F6 when I start installing from the XP disc, I could install drivers so that XP would recognize my hard drive. Western Digital doesn't supply any drivers. They say it should come from the controller manufacturer (whoever that is) or Insyde. HP says they will only support the operating system they installed. (Vista) Any ideas where I could get drivers, or am I completely on the wrong track? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Re: Running Vista-Installing XP-get blue screen!
you probably need the Raid drivers for your motherboard if you have a SATA drive in your computer,

How can I figure out what motherboard I have, so I can download the drivers. HP doesn't show any raid drivers on there sight.

Re: Running Vista-Installing XP-get blue screen!
I have an ACER Aspire 6930 with Vista pre-installed on C: with no OEM disk. Having created a partion I: with XP Pro installed on same HDD. I am running a SATA drive AHCI Bios config (standard). Have loaded latest Intel Matrix Storage Manager to update mu Chipset, not to mentiona all the XP Pro driver using DriverAgaent, all works well except having to enter BIOS to choose AHCI or IDE for the OS I wish to operate under each time. Have used the Vistabootpro, which enables me to select OS on bootup but having to select AHCI for Vista or IDE for XP Pro in Bios prior selection....all very painful !! If AHCI is set in BIOS and I wish to boot XP Pro, I get startup screen shot faintly then blue screen for a nano second and PC returns to OS selection, then it F2 to enter BIOS to change to IDE to use XP Pro OS. Vice-Versa if Vista is to be used.
Apologies for the long winded post...but I have wasted a lot of time with no success and this is my first time using such an enquiry system.
Looking for to your hopeful and positive response as I am probably doing something wrong and need an answer!! thanks Bagpuss on tour in Bahrain

Why not use nLite to invorporate the drivers you need and all service packs in an install disk of XP?
