Reverting to Vista Only

Postby goodbyeXP on Mon Jan 05, 2009 1:58 pm

Machine was delivered with Vista Only.
I needed XP for a while.
I have forgotten how exactly I did it, but I think first I installed XP onto a separate partition, then installed VistaBootPro on XP and had it reinstall the Vista Boot loader with the BCDs so I could dual boot.

Now I want to get rid of XP and revert the machine to original state.
I'm unsure how to proceed. Do I just go into Vista and remove the XP partition?

Reason to be careful is: I have a HP with the QuickPlay option that used to boot Vista "partway" enough to play a DVD.
This feature stopped working when I installed VistaBootPro. I am hoping to regain that feature.

-Thanks for your help.

I should have mentioned that I must have used the backup option of VistaBootLoader - to make a backup of my original MBR.
I found some files data 2 years ago:
2542007.mbr 1 KB
vista_bootloader.bcd 28 KB
vista_bootloader.bcd.LOG1 0 KB
vista_bootloader.bcd.LOG2 0 KB

Not sure how they figure in just yet.

-Thanks

Assuming that you're remembering correctly, it should be a simple matter of using VBP to remove the legacy boot option, test it to make sure it works, and then just remove the XP data from your system.
