Removing Windows XP Beta

Postby juju » Wed Jan 09, 2002 3:34 am

I recently purchased a new PC with XP Pro installed. My old machine is a triple boot, with ME, 2000, and the XP Beta. I plan to give this old machine to my wife, without the XP Beta. How to I remove the XP Beta safely? I noticed the installation of the beta created two folders on my Win 2000 partition named USMT2.UNC. Both of these folders (one folder is on the D: drive and the other in the Documents and Settings/Adminstrator folder). They both contain approx. 156 Mb of data that seem to be setup info for the XP beta. I would normally just use Partion Magic 6 to remove the XP partition, but these USMT2.UNC folders worry me. Any suggestions?

First of all you will need to remove the entry for XP from the boot.ini file. After formatting the XP partition you will effectively have removed XP. Personally I would move these .unc files to a temp folder and see what happens. It does not sound to mee as if that would be a real problem.
