Got myself a lil 2 TB job -- a little more than I really wanted to pay in €-value ATM, but I can handle the end-of-month heat I guess... :whistle ^*^ :witch:

Guess I'll have a go with the main rig next week or something...

I have SUCH a love/hate relationship with this particular computer !!!

This really is turning out to be a trip down memory lane..

Got XP Pro x64 installed now, on a dedicated partition, and I'm just going through all of the same experiences of about 6 years ago when I built the rig !!!

Love side is : cripes, I've never seen any other rig with this kind of fundamental longevity.

Hate side is : but CRIPES basic Windows setup is just such MURDER !!!!!!!!!!

______

Also --- this was my Main Longhorn 4074 rig, so it gets extra credits for poetry.

Drives now days are quite huge, why I remember when...

I installed XP x64 Pro also about a year ago in a bootable VHD.
It seemed to run ok once I found some drivers for that rig.

Did you find a copy of XP x64 SP3 or is yours one that has it built into it.

XP x64 only goes as far as SP2 ...

It's new installation media that I'm making, not completely happy with it atm, will probably create another one next week.

But yeah, I do have the SP2 slipstreamed ...

You are correct Julian, I was looking at the x86 TechNet .iso by mistake.
The x64 does only go as far as SP2.

:yesnod:

... I actually looked this up in the past day or two, and Microsoft has actually announced that there will *never* be a Service Pack 3 for Server 2003 and XP x64 ...

(though frankly, I'd hope for a decent Update Rollup one day ... :whistle )

Yay !! ^*^

Had a good feeling suddenly, made a new CD, *much* cleaner than the last one, and it's in tip-top shape now !!

:witch:

Now, can start the more interesting business with trying to get W7 x64 onto the rig, and with no further need to waste any more blank DVDS either ... :whistle
