XP Install Freezes

Postby nkcave7 » Fri Feb 08, 2002 3:27 pm

I have just recently upgraded my computer with the Athlon 1800+ processor and the Asus A7V133-C motherboard and was very disappointed to discover that Windows XP Pro does not want to complete the installation process for some reason. I had no problems at all installing XP on my old Athlon K7 500 system. I have tried physically uninstalling each hardware one by one and still have no luck. The problem is as follows: The XP installation runs smooth right up till you get the "Completing Installation" dialogue box and then it just freezes there. I still see the status bar lights moving along the screen but I can leave it there for hours and nothing happens. I have copied an error log text below in the hopes that maybe someone might know where the problem may be: (critical error) Encountered an unhandled exception (c0000005) at address 77f5310f with the following parameters: 1 322d2c6c. 02/04/2002 12:54:36,d:xpclientbasentsetupsyssetuplog.c,133,,Setup encountered the following unhandled exception: Exception c0000005 at address 77F5310F with the following parameters: 00000001 322D2C6C 02/04/2002 12:54:36,d:xpclientbasentsetupsyssetuplog.c,133,,Error 02/04/2002 12:54:36,d:xpclientbasentsetupsyssetuplog.c,133,,: 02/04/2002 12:54:36,d:xpclientbasentsetupsyssetuplog.c,133,,Setup encountered the following unhandled exception: Exception c0000005 at address 77F5310F with the following parameters: 00000001 322D2C6C 02/04/2002 12:54:36,d:xpclientbasentsetupsyssetuplog.c,133,, *** Thank you!

Check the site of your mb manufacturer to see if there is a BIOS Update available. Quite often the older BIOS will not support the Palamino core of the newest Athlons. Maybe that's the problem in your case.
