I do hope you get this straightened out mido.813
In my opinion, there isn't a punishment strong enough for the people who send out viruses, it is like being violated in the worst way, the mental anguish of ones files being lost or destroyed, just so some arse can one up another arse, or for whatever reason. If they want to prove how proficient they are with viruses, why don't they violate each other, see who can inflicked the most damage on each others computers!!!!!!

Re: folders to shortcuts virus
You'll need to reinstall Windows, whatever else -- because even after cleaning the infection, some damage to your Registry will most probably remain.
Given the severity of the attack, it would be best to assume that Windows System Restore will also have been compromised.
Before doing so, you could try using THIS : http://www.snapfiles.com/get/restoration.HTML as a free file recovery method -- advice coming with the WARNING that some of the lost data could be infected.
I do hope that you can manage to get it all back into working order again, anyway

I don't understand what can I do by files recovery, the bad thing is that I need the files on my usb flash memory and I wanna install an anti-virus.
Re: folders to shortcuts virus
Well, you said that you've lost folders ? Therefore the files inside them ?
File Recovery software lets you undelete lost files (whichever ones it can find)
