Windows 8 Developers Preview download info.
Re: Windows 8 Developers Preview download info.
YES !!! Got one of the two games working via Vista SP2 compatibility mode on the .NET, game installation, game launcher and client Applications.
The other game is from the same publisher, and will likely be functional in exactly the same way.
All the software that I need is therefore functional in W8 DP.

Re: Windows 8 Developers Preview download info.
Generally speaking, I'm finding W8 leaner, more stable, and more responsive than W8 -- it seems to be consistently using about 10-15% less RAM (just for running the OS) than W7.
I'm nevertheless wondering if this faster, leaner OS is simply an artefact of it being a features-lite Alpha version ; or if we can expect it to retain these improvements moving on into Beta and towards RC ...

Re: Windows 8 Developers Preview download info.
I would really like to order a touch screen monitor, but most of the ones I have looked at and read reviews on, say windows 7 only, so would hate to get the thing and it would not work with Windows 8 like my T-Mobile jet broadband connector doesn't

Most basic peripherals, with printers being a typical exception, that work in W7 *should* work in W8 -- but yeah, it's an expensive gamble if you're unlucky with it

Re: Windows 8 Developers Preview download info.
Here's a tip, to try and get into the Microsoft Connect Program for W8 (which is OPEN, it's just been generally limited to BUILD conference attendees and similar for the time being).
Go HERE :
https://connect.microsoft.com/site1147/ ... -76H9-3CFP
(use invitation code MSDN-76H9-3CFP if prompted)
Download and install the bug reporting App ; and then start reporting W8 bugs
No guarantee this will work, but being a reporter of bugs rather than not being one can only help

Thanks for the link Julian.
I take it your thinking there will not be a Windows 8 TechBeta?

Just for fun I tested this DP x64 build in VMware workstation 8 w/ a Windows 7 x64 host.
The install was very fast & functions quite well.

Well that sure took some of (about 15%) the fun out of testing this one in VMware, after the 3rd install I wised-up & took a Snapshot of the OS once I had it updated & tweaked how I like it.
Sure enough I broke the OS again (4th time) installing the VMware tools, they dont like my Display Driver not synched to the VM causing the OS to lockup.
It took about 25 minutes to Snapshot it & 1 min., 15 sec. to restore it.

Re: Windows 8 Developers Preview download info.
I downloaded the Windows 64 bit version w/developer tools and for whatever reason can't get it to burn to a Dbl layer disc, guess I'll have to try using VMware or something

Re: Windows 8 Developers Preview download info.
I burned a copy of Windows 8 64 bit version w/developer tools w/ Nero on a DL DVD & had no problem but haven't installed it yet. I've read that Virtual box & VMware workstation 8 work w/ Windows 8 but older versions don't.
On the VMware this is the error I am getting. I googled it & found others that are having the problem too & offer some tips

I will try again, the Snapshot restore was fast but the OS seems to have slowed down, maybe it needed a restart.
