So far my only problem is with my T-Mobile USB dongle, it will connect with the wireless part and obviously need wireless hotspot, but not the broadband which is much faster, and in Chicago area at least all over. It is not installing the drivers for the device, even tried updating etc in Device Manager

Hey Julian, its good seeing you here ^*^
------------------------

I got the ones I wanted ^*^

Just changed my User Name (& PW) from my Live ID email that was ugly.

Added the HyperV Window feature (in x64), not to sure it'll work as the core item was grayed out.

Edit: I found that if one types w/ keypad while on the Metro desktop it automatically searches & shows the results, kinda slick :yesnod:

hey there JD !!

I'll play around a bit with Metro, but if I get this set up like I want I'll be disabling Metro and trying to use it as a Main OS.

It's at :

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer

And the Value RPEnabled -- 1 = Metro ; 0 = Aero

Unfortunately W8 DP is coded so that you can't just slip between the one and the other, as I guess the Beta W8 and later will allow...

Windows 8 DP is now my Main OS :)

...

Everything is working except my two main games :confused ... basically because MS is phasing .NET out, and these games depend on it.

I managed to get the various .NET versions installed (basically, lots of torturing them with compatibility mode) ; but the games themselves are unhappy with all this messy hacking ... Image Image Image

Apart from that, and couple other .NET software that are screaming blue murder, W8 seems both leaner and faster than W7 ... ^*^

Congrats on getting W8 DP installed & customized Julian :yesnod:

---------

A couple of more things I found but appear to not work or haven’t figured out yet

On the Metro desktop is a tile called – memories Your Life Book, first window, scrollable
Image

Choosing a section brings up this window that is scrollable

In the System32 folder is the dialer.exe app.

Not sure, some goofy footer :P

SOoo Julian, is the W8 as your main OS w/ Metro, etc. disabled like a souped-up W7?
It is supposed to have native USB 3.0, faster boot & shut-down, among other things.

I received 7 updates this AM for W8 & several yesterday too.
The Windows defender in W8 includes MSE too, an all-in-one AV/malware deal.

aaaah thanks for the tip about Defender - the old MSE contains Defender, I hadn't realised they'd reversed that deal :uhhh

I actually LIKE MSE :yesnod:

yeah, it's basically faster, and does boot faster -- though shutdown with Metro enabled is slow as mud on my rig (but I keep it switched off).

Don't really have any USB devices to speak of, so can't comment on the 3.0

The only truly strange weirdness of it comes from .NET no longer being a core OS element (.NET is in fact disabled by default in W8) -- I think it probably helps with the speed, but of course any old 3rd party software built around .NET can simply just fail to work (especially old .NET versions 1 and 2)...

I'd not be surprised at all if copy-protected DVDs don't work (they didn't work on either Vista or W7 until these hit RC status), but meh...

The main annoyance will be booting into W7 for gaming, neither of the games that I play works in W8 -- though I guess I can try a reinstall now that my setup seems to have stabilised, possibly the old .NET will play nicer.
