Changing boot disk
Can dbp CHANGE THE BOOT DISK from one drive to another. My computer boots from drive e: but actually my Win7 64 is located on drive c: I want to remove drive e and have it boot from c: without e: being in the machine.
Re: Changing boot disk
Check disk management (right click Computer>Manage) to see which is your drive/partition tagged (System). If it's drive C: you should have no problem removing drive E:
You'll need DBP to remove any dual boot menu entries afterwards.
Re: Changing boot disk
The boot disk is e:, that is the problem. I cannot remove e: because the computer will not boot. I wanted to know if this program will change the boot to c: , which is the %windir%. Yes, the system disk is e: (not c:)
Re: Changing boot disk
It doesn't matter which the boot disk is as the boot disk will always be the disk you have booted to. What is important is which disk is tagged (System) as that is where the boot system files will be found.
Since the (System) disk is drive E: you will need to copy the folder Boot (plus contents) and the file bootmgr from E: to C: and then boot to C: and use DBP to reinstall the boot loader.
Alternately, remove drive E: then boot to your Win 7 DVD and run a startup repair from "repair your computer" at the "Install now" setup screen. You may need to run the startup repair twice as sometimes the first run copies the files I mentioned to the hard drive and the second run configures the BCD.
