Tripple Boot turns into One Boot

Postby hawkdriver » Thu Apr 14, 2011 9:48 pm

Had working Dual boot vista then xp installed was fine. Installed windows 7 and still all was fine. Tried to install the recovery console on my wife's net book hhd when it was pluged into my laptop. Issued the command to write the recovery console to c:\ instead of the usb drive. Now only Vista is avialable and boots. VPB ver 3.1 shows win 7 as f: drive, Vista a c:\ drive and xp (legacy os) also as C:. Is this correct. Windows explorer sees and lables all the drives correctly as does drive manager.

Please advise,

What OS can you get it to boot to, if any?

And I don't think it should see two OS as C, I am guessing that the recovery console faux pas messed up one of those, not sure how to figure out which one, maybe knowing which OS you are able to get into will give us a clue though

I can boot into vista; I believe I was in xp when I tried to install recovery console. I know I typed c:\ instead of some other drive letter that did not have an os in it. When xp was booted into vista was listed as d: and win7 was listed as f:
When vista was originally booted into vista was listed as c:\ , xp as d:\ ,and win7 as f:
When win 7 was booted into win 7 was listed as c:\ xp as e:\ and vista as d:\

Hope this sheds some lite on things

Check and see where the folder Boot and the file bootmgr are, and also find where these 3 files are NTDETECT, boot.ini and ntldr, and post their location here (you will have to unhide files and folers and protected files and folders etc in folder options to find those files. and you may not be able to see the folder Boot or the file bootmgr but don't worry they are on the partition marked system

Once you find boot.ini paste it here in the forum

Also if you can post an "image" of your Disk Managment screen that would help too, to see what it physically looks like

since you are able to get into Vista use the clipping tool and save the image of your Disk Mangement screen to somewhere on you computer, then upload it to photobucket (you may have to start an account which is free) then copy the "img code" from photobucket to here

To do a screen capture use the snipping tool on the start menu, under accessories, it is fairly simple

Or get to the Disk Management screen and hit your "Print Screen button" then open paint and place the cursor anywhere in the paint screen and hit the Ctrl & V button then save the file somewhere and upload it to Photobucket and paste the img code here

Oh yeah I need to see the boot.ini file, just open it and do a copy and paste to here
