Please, I Need Help!! Purchase DualbootPro XP won't boot!

Postby nesto » Sun Feb 27, 2011 6:23 am

Hi,

Hope someone can help. I've spent three days trying to figure out this software. I thought by purchasing DualbootPro 1.1 that it would be easy and automated. I was wrong! stupid me. :()

I am trying to dualboot Windows 7/64 bit and Windows XP Pro 64 bit. Windows 7 is on a 80 gig Intel (SSD) on drive C: (shown on Disk Management) connected to Intel's SATA2 ICH10R controller on the main motherboard, and two SATA2 HD's on Raid0 drive E: (shown in Disk Management) connected to the main Gigabyte motherboard SATA2 controller and it boots fine.

Window XP64 is installed on a 1TB HD(SATA2) drive F: (shown on Disk Management) and it dosn't boot. This drive is connected to the Intel SATA2 ICH10R controller on the motherboard. All current Intel SATA drivers are up to date and installed on both OS's. The only SATA2 drivers not installed on the XP drive are the Gigabyte's drivers, since I don't want the Raid0 drive to show up in XP.

I do have the menu with both OS at restart/boot-up, however when selecting window XP, it fails to boot. The error I get is:

"Invalid Boot.ini file
Booting from C:\windows\
NTDETECT failed"

And now all of a sudden, I can't boot to WinXP via the bios priority change anymore. The error I get is this:

Windows could not start because the following file is missing:
<windows Root>System32\NTOSKKRNL.EXE
Please re-install a copy of the above file

I tried lots of different ways to get this to work from searching these forms, maybe I messed something up.

The steps I took when I started with unscucssesful results were

Note: Windows 7 was already installed on my PC;

1)Purchased DualbootPro 1.1

2) Installed it in Windows 7 and backed up the BCD

3) Added new HD to my PC,

4) Installed WINXP64 into new HD, but unplugged my Windows 7 drive as well as my Raid0 drives so I wouldn't fubar them.

5) WINXP booted fine, installed all WinXP updates.

6) Re-connected win 7 drive and Raid0 drives and booted to windows 7

7) Loaded up DualbootPro to configure the dual boot process and made the required selections as per instruction..see screen shots

8) Made changes to both boot.ini files in Win 7 and winxp to match what disk mamangement shows.

I hope this is enough info, if not, please let me know.

Thanks

Ernesto Guzman

Thanks yeshuas, but that guide dosn't help me. The guide says to boot into WINXP, that's my problem, I can't! either through the menu or with changing priority in the bios. Please see my original post with the errors I'm getting.

Thanks

Those 3 files are there as per the screen shot below. In windows 7, I don't see any system drive letter or boot folder. How do I see those? I have already check the option to see all hiden files.

did you uncheck the box to see Protected operating system files and folders?

on the system drive you should have the 3 mentioned files and also bootmgr and the folder Boot with all its contents

Then check this guide, install-windows-xp-in-dual-boot-with-pre-installed-windows-7-t112568.html

Yes, hidden files are unchecked. The system drive should be inside of drive C: correct? I don't see no bootmgr folder, only the 3 files you mention.

I don't know, I might just re-install XP again and start over. How do I get my windows 7 back to before dualbootpro? Do I have to restore the bcd file back.?

thanks yeshuas!

What I mean by getting windows 7 back to before dualbootpro was back to the state it was before dualboot. ie, before I installed dualbootpro. Does it matter?

Anyway, I just remembered I did an image back-up of winxp64 after I installed all the window updates so I did restore of it and I can now boot to winxp via the bios priority option. I will try again using the first guide you provided in you're first reply post to me. I'll let you know how it goes.

thanks again yeshuas

Ernesto

Edit: Why can't I see the boot folder and bootmgr file in windows 7? I can them in windows xp. I have the file option to show hidden OS and drives? I don't get it.

In Windows 7 they are on the 100MB System Reserved partition that is not available without assigning it a drive letter I believe while in windows 7, odd I know, you can see the partition in Disk Management, but it doesn't show up in My Computer or Computer or whatever it is called on you system, without it having a drive letter.

It sounded like you were on the way to getting your problem resolved using the guides we provide, but if you need anymore help, please feel free to contact us, and if need be I will personally walk you through getting your system dual booting.
