OSL2000 boot manager problem

Postby Chippychap » Tue Feb 15, 2011 4:30 pm

Hi Folks, I was going to create a dual boot machine so installed OSL2000.
Since the install my PC is running like a dog so thought best way is to remove what was installed last.
The darn thing will NOT go.
It does not show up on "add/install" is invisible to WinUtilities uninstall page.
Tried the time trial versions of Revo and some other uninstall doodad but it does not show up.
It hasn't shown itself on the start menu so can't access its own uninstall feature.
The website lays down a method of killing it which does not work on my machine.
Have not had a reply from my plea to their "help" people.
It DOES ask me on startup where do I wish to boot from but booting now takes ten times as long and The PC feels sick.
Has anyone any knowledge of this programme from hell? :bashhead

How about a system restore?

From their website, have you tried this?
How do I uninstall?
(1) Please click here to download OSL2000. Now, run 'osl2000.exe' and choose uninstall.

(2) If you're using DOS, first run 'osl2000.exe' from Windows. Once run, it automatically creates a folder c:\osl2000 and extract all files into it. Now, please go to that folder and run 'dosinst.exe' to uninstall.

(3) If you're experiencing problems during uninstallation, then use the boot floppy method. That is, create a boot floppy, copy all the files from c:\osl2000 to that floppy, boot your system using that floppy and run 'dosinst.exe' to uninstall. Most versions of Windows (and DOS) can create a boot floppy very easily.

How do I uninstall without the uninstall disk?
The uninstall disk is not required in most of the cases. You have to just follow the standard uninstall procedure as described above. But if your system has special boot-time low-level disk utilities, such as GoBack installed. Or, if your system has disk managers like OnTrack, EZ-Drive, MaxBlast, etc. Then you won't be able to uninstall without the uninstall disk.

Number 1 just doesn't work..........................................for me

Number 2 doesn't work

Number 3 My PC does not have a floppy drive.

Number 4 My PC does not have any of the programmes mentioned

Tried System restore 1st, went back successfully but to no avail.

It's not listed under "Cntrl Alt Del" under services or processes.

Nothing even shows it is there so I can't delete it.

A nasty devious little app. :tapedshut:

Also, when I view installed stuff in "Installed Programmes" section of Control Panel it shows nothing installed on the day it was.

Hi shreader, just to put this thing to rest, hopefully, instead of creating a boot floppy, which I don't have the drive for.....

Could I copy the files to a DVD and get the machine to boot from that?

Finally, how do I boot from a DVD?

Thank you

Ken

I'd try that for sure.

The recommended way to boot from a (bootable) DVD is to change ones boot order in their BIOS, normally the BIOS is accessed by pressing the delete key whan the PC starts up @ the "post" testing.

My own way to boot from the DVD (which doesn't always work) is to press the F8 or F9 key during the "post" testing then choose the boot device, then "hit any key" when asked, usually rather soon after choosing the boot device.

Hi shreader, have just ried it, burned the files to a DVD, set the bios to boot from the DVD.

It just reverted to boot manager and when I tried to tell it to boot from CD ROM it wouldn't.

Even quite reputable uninstall programmes are unable to see it, never mind get rid of it.

Seems that the only other way I can think of is to try uninstallers and try 'em one after another.

If it is a reputable bit of kit why does it hide on the system?

When I look on the Add/uninstall feature on W7 one of the ways to pick which you want to delete is the "Date installed" on the date in question it is blank. :no

Thanks for your help shreader. Take care.
