Oops, I upgraded again!
LOL ya, just spent $600 on this lot!
MSI P67A-C43 P67 ATX LGA1155 DDR3 1PCI-E16 3PCI-E1 3PCI SATA3 USB3.0 Motherboard
57513 1 $139.85 $139.85
Intel Core i7 2600K Quad Core Unlocked Hyperthreading Processor LGA1155 3.4GHZ Sandy Bridge 8MB
57960 1 $343.28 $343.28
Mushkin Enhanced Silverline Stiletto 8GB 2X4GB PC3-10666 DDR3-1333 9-9-9-24 Dual Channel Memory Kit
55544 1 $64.99 $64.99
d*mn, a %33 increase in performance over the i7 930! The 2600K costs about as much as the i7 930 did/does. I never incrementally upgrade so this will be a good replacement for my Q6600 machine.
BTW bah to Intel for forcing new sockets on us!

ery nice! The LGA1155 and the DDR 3 RAM should keep you ahead of the hardware game for quite some time

Nah John, your machine is just fine. there's not many programs that can use all that power yet. All I do is fold. I'm a simple man.

Hehehe, I doubt it but I'm pretty sure that when the 2011 socket comes online, I'll be drooling for that too but I have a budget. Man the hexa-core 980X's for 1366 socket are still $1K! I think the 2011 socket will be only for very deep pockets. There's no room for another solution.

Hey Algis, what happened to your Q6600, did it quit on you?
Your new system sounds great by the way, I hope to build myself a new one in a couple months

Cool man, we can compare machines, are you going stock HS/F? I should have mine by mid next week, around the 27th.

It's still chugging along nicely after a rather large upgrade last summer, it needed a new HS/F and PSU at the same time, then in the fall my 9800GT GPU died so I replaced it with a GTX460.
When I started checking the 2600K out, I knew almost right away that the Q6600's days were numbered. It has served me well.
So this is what the new machine will consist of:
Intel 2600K CPU
MSI P67A-C43 P67 ATX LGA1155 DDR3 1PCI-E16
8GB Mushkin RAM
Corsair Hyper 212+ HS/F
Corsair CX600 PSU
eVGA 9800GT, GTX460 GPU's
