Can't figure out DualBootPro

Postby lmgoldin » Mon Dec 27, 2010 11:40 pm

I purchased DualBootPro, but expected it to come with documentation of some kind. If it's there, I've missed it. I have 2 internal hard drives, one has Windows Vista, one has Windows XP. I've run DualBootPro under each of them, and so far I can only dual boot through the BIOS. The DPB menu is there, but it will only boot to Vista. Do you have step-by-step directions?
Thank you.

Sorry to hear you are having trouble. This particular problem we have run across numerous of times. Depending on the order of OS installation results in different issues. The help documentation provided with DBP is very limited as trying to discuss all the possible outcomes would take forever. We have setup a Guides section that you can browse if you want.

However, what order did you install the operating systems?

Can you also copy/paste the contents of DBP -> Boot Information -> All. This will allow us to see exactly what is going on. The most likely culprit is that XP is not correctly configured in the Bcd store. :yesnod:

I installed Windows XP as a single drive on my computer, then I removed that drive, installed a new drive, and installed Vista on this drive. I then put the XP drive back in. The BIOS lets me select the priority of boot drive, but I would prefer the ease of using DualBootPro. When I boot with the XP drive as priority in the BIOS, it boots right into XP. When I boot with the Vista drive as priority, it boots with a menu that lists Vista and XP, but it will only boot into Vista.

This is the Boot Information from BDP:

Please post a screen shot of your disk management screen with both Harddrives plugged in and let us know what OS you booted into when it was taken, also if it is not evident which disk contains which OS let us know that too

We need more information as to what problem you are having, what you have tried, how you got to where you are, what other OS's you have installed, what order they were installed etc.
