What's your opinion of it JD? Is it worthwhile?

After reading a bit about it, it's just another flavor of Linux :yesnod:

I only took a quick spin through it to get some screenys, haven't tried running a .exe or doing much of anything w/ it yet.

This one I found is a "Live CD" type so one has to have the CD in the drive to run it.
The Get Chrome site I found it at says its "Chrome OS is at the Release Candidate stage".

From their About Chrome OS

2010-12-07: New version of Chrome OS 0.9.576 RC is available for download!

Chrome OS is a brand new free operating system built around the revolutionary Google Chrome browser.

The project aim is to provide a lightweight Linux distribution for the best web browsing experience.

Featured software in Chrome OS:
•GNOME 2.30 desktop environment
•Google Chrome 9.0.576 web browser Updated!
•Google Picasa 2.7 photo manager
•OpenOffice.org 3.2 office suite
•GIMP 2.6 image editor
•Flash Player 10.1 plugin
•Wine Windows emulator 1.2
•Pidgin 2.6 instant messenger
•Dashboard in browser New!
•and much more!

System requirements of Chrome OS:
•Processor: Intel Pentium, Xeon or newer; AMD Duron, Athlon, Sempron, Opteron or newer
•RAM: min. 256 MB
•Hard disk: min. 1 GB
•Graphics card: supports most modern graphics cards

The download file size is 610MB & is very slow if not a subscriber (in the 95KB/sec range).
It also arrives w/o a file extension so one needs to add the .ISO to the end of it before burning it to a CD.
My Avast! AV scan showed it is virus free.

You'd think they'd put more time and effort into designing these things wouldn't you? That's the one thing about Linux I never got... they just didn't seem to get that most users want something that resembles/works like either a Mac or PC GUI, but with power of Linux. That means a lot more than just playing with icons or windows on a desktop.

They have actually started to come around with the overall design of linux...well, ubuntu at least. I have it installed on my laptop but as you mentioned, I use a theme that makes it look like a Mac. Even got the dock bar. I know this is suppose to be meant for netbooks but they have to make something better as trying to beat Ubuntu or Phoenix GUI's and usability is a huge task.
