Windows XP Install from CD Error
This is by far the strangest thing I have ever seen Windows do...
My room mate rebooted his system after a Windows 7 update and it would not boot and gave the error msg "XYVAV is missing please insert proper boot device and reboot". I have no idea what that was and am still unclear even after Google research. Anyways, I cannot access the F8 menu to get to the recovery console because every time I boot without a bootable flash drive inserted I get that error msg and it will not boot to the bootable Windows 7 flash drive that I made. So then I decided to use my live image of Ubuntu on my flash drive to burn an ISO that I made of my Windows XP install disc a few years ago. Burned fine and all that, and when I rebooted and pressed any key to boot from CD this happened:

Any thoughts?

All these years women have had slogans to confuse us. When a woman says "no" she means no. When a man says "yes" it means he pobably hasn't understood the question.

They're links to bigger ones...

I get a tiny little image that is not clickable, unlike thumbnails which expand to a large image when you click them.

Changed them to links

Yeah I can read those links. You may have a boot sector virus. Do you have a Windows 7 DVD and can you boot to that? If so then try a startup repair from the Windows 7 DVD
The other possibility is that your XP CD is corrupt or at least the microsoftcorporation.img ( a tiny 2kb file) that tells your system the CD or DVD disc you insert is bootable, is corrupt. You should be able to download a good one from http://unattended.msfn.org/ but you'll have to unpack your XP iso image or disc to be able to replace it and you'll need isobuster to be able to see the microsoftcorporation.img file.
I'd say first try a startup repair.

Re: Windows XP Install from CD Error
I do not have a blank DVD or a DVD burner.
I have used this image before with no problems at all. If I have the WD external HD plugged into a USB slot it gives me a different error, Cannot boot to CD - Error 4.
