Any ideas Guys?

After recent hassles am loath to just kill it, which is my first urge.

See if you can locate it on your hard drive. That should give you an idea of whether it's associated with an application you've installed or not.

Ouch, nothing on google either which doesn't bode well as malware often uses random names and @ 400 RAM usage is suspicious. TryProcess Monitor which might be too arcane for you or the easier to read and use Process Explorer, both written by Russinovitch who makes excellent free utilities, to find the original app that started it.

If you right click the file and go to Properties you should get quite a lot of information on it.

It says Apex file system but "Apex" doesn't come up in a search of the PC.
The thing that bothered me, apart from not knowing what it is, is the amount of resources it seems to be using.

Yup, it is using a lot of resources! Have you installed anything new in recent memory? You had another problem recently. Could it have come from there? :dontgetit I still don't get why it doesn't appear on google if it's a legit process? Is your system noticeably slower or lots of unusual internet traffic or adverts popping up without any reason?

Oh, BTW, googling 'APEX' is totally useless, about as bad as ACME! Try Process Explorer, may get some extra info.

The PC slowed down quite noticeable and I had pages opening with ads on 'em.
Even though it is an "exe" it won't open from the search results.
Have scanned it with AVG, am currently scanning with Microsoft Security essentials.
If I delete it but don't empty the bin does that give me a taste of life without it, good or bad?
Sorry to be high maintenance augie. :embarrassed:
